New Reading Program

Christmas Came Early At Gause I.S.D.

One of the main goals of Gause ISD and the Gause ISD Board of Trustees is maintaining our razor-sharp focus on the teaching of reading and reading interventions. In the summer of 2018, Gause ISD trustees unanimously voted to designate over $30,000 toward the Fountas & Pinnell Leveled Literacy Intervention System. Fountas & Pinnell is a research based reading intervention program that targets struggling readers who are not achieving grade-level expectations in reading. Students receive small group literacy intervention that works on leveled texts and progresses as they acquire reading skills.

Although it was mid-September when the enormous amount of teaching materials finally arrived, it felt like Christmas as teachers unpacked box after box of leveled readers. The reading teachers at Gause ISD spent many hours unpacking over three pallets of materials getting ready to put them to use. As one teacher stated, “We are very fortunate that a little school like Gause could purchase such a great program.” This purchase was a reflection of Gause ISD’s commitment to helping our students succeed.
