spelling. At each grade level, the curriculum is 100%
Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge [TEKS]
aligned. My goal is to develop in each student a
love of reading. I want them to view reading as a life long
interest and to develop into independent, strong readers.
Our very strong emphasis on phonics develops strong,
fluent readers and a knowledge of spelling rules.
Grading and Late Work Practices:
I follow the district grading policy. At these early grade
levels I realize there are many reasons and circumstances
when homework may be late. I do accept late work and
will always work with a child to get it done in class.
Re-teach Practices: At these early grade levels re-teaching is done on a daily
basis. The very nature of our basal reading series and our
Saxon Phonics program is to recycle daily skills learned.
These skills and phonic rules are repeated daily throughout
the year. Students needing additional re-teach may attend
tutorials from 3-4 pm. on Monday and Wednesday.
