Classroom MACRO Plan I teach 5th grade Math and English/Language Arts. The curriculum is 100% Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge (TEKS) aligned. My goal in teaching 5th grade is to solidify concepts introduced in elementary school and prepare students for their middle school and high school learning experiences. My true goal for all students is to foster independent, responsible learners. I believe that it is imperative for our students to self-monitor their own learning and take pride in knowing what they do well and what they need help with. Expectations are set high. My goal is for all students to reach and soar above their greatest potential. Teaching is a privilege and I feel blessed to be here at Gause ISD.
Grading Practices I follow the district grading policy. For late work, at a minimum, I follow the district late work policy; however, I realize that there are extenuating circumstances and I will often accept late work after the due date as long as the assignment in question has not been graded and given back to other students. Late work beyond the district policy is at teacher discretion.

Re-teach Practices Following the Madeline Hunter Teaching Model, I utilize every opportunity to re-teach assignments when individuals or classes struggle with specific concepts. There is re-teach in the classroom everyday. Additional re-teach opportunities are available during tutorials from 3-4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. Students also may have opportunities to improve their grades on assignments when re-teach is offered. Improving a grade may be in the form of correcting a test for additional points, redoing an assignment for a maximum of a 70, or doing an alternate assignment for a grade that will raise the grade in question without changing the original grade (example: the student may do another assignment on the same concept and I will accept this assignment and record the grade, but not change the original grade). A student’s failure to appropriately study or prepare for an assignment or test does not entitle them to re-teach opportunities. The teacher has sole discretion on which grades/assignments are re-taught and when opportunities are available to improve the grade.
