Classroom MACRO Plan I teach grade 3. The curriculum is 100% Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge (TEKS) aligned. Saxon mathematics is a hands-on program that is research based. I want to show my students that learning can be fun. My goal is to teach allowing for learning style differences, behavioral and academic differences while seeing that my children are learning and working on or above grade level and are fully prepared to pass the State mandated TAKS test and move onto fourth grade.
Grading and Late Work Practices I follow the district grading policy. For late work, at a minimum, I follow the district late work policy; however, I realize that there are extenuating circumstances, and I will often accept late work after the due date, especially if the student has been sick. Late work beyond the district policy is at my discretion.
District Late Work Policy
Re-teach Practices Following the Madeline Hunter Teaching Model, I utilize every opportunity to re-teach assignments when individuals or classes struggle with specific concepts. There is re-teach in the classroom everyday. Saxon mathematics is a cyclical program, which means there is re-teach everyday. Additional re-teach opportunities are available during tutorials from 3-4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. Students also may have opportunities to improve their grades on assignments. Improving a grade may be in the form of correcting a test for additional points, redoing an assignment for a maximum of a 70. A student’s failure to appropriately study or prepare for an assignment or test does not entitle them to re-teach opportunities. I have sole discretion on which grades/assignments are re-taught and when opportunities are available to improve the grade.
