Plan
I teach grades 3
– 8 Social Studies. At each grade
level, the curriculum is aligned with the Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge (TEKS).
I follow the
district grading policy. For late
work, at a minimum, I follow the district policy.
I do realize that there can be extenuating circumstances sometimes and
will sometimes accept late work. Late
work beyond the district policy is at teacher discretion.
DISTRICT LATE WORK POLICY
·
One day late – 15 points
deducted
·
Two days late – 30
points deducted
·
Three days late –
maximum grade of 50
·
After three days, work is
only accepted at teacher discretion
Each day I usually
do a short review/reteach of the previous day’s lesson.
In addition, there are opportunities from 3 – 4 p.m. on Monday’s and
Wednesday’s each week for tutoring in areas that students are struggling with
or just need some extra review. Each
six weeks I offer at least one opportunity for extra credit.
Bringing back their parent signed three week progress report the
next day is also an opportunity for an extra credit grade of 100.
The day before a
chapter test I always review with the class making sure they are aware of the
content that will be covered on the test. Students
have the opportunity to take notes during this time.
A student does not automatically get the opportunity to re-do an
assignment or re-take a test just because they failed.
A student’s failure to prepare for a test or complete assignments does
not entitle them to a re-teach or re-take opportunity.
The teacher has sole discretion on which grades/assignments are re-taught
and when opportunities are available to improve the grade.
Studying history
requires concentration, some memorization of dates and/or facts, and continual
review of the content studied daily. We
look at information and events from a historical perspective.
Hopefully, studying our past history helps us gain insight to the future
so that we learn from our past and our mistakes are not repeated.
