Classroom MACRO Plan      I teach grades 6-8 science.  At each grade level, the curriculum is 100% Texas Essential Skills and Knowledge (TEKS) aligned.  My goal in teaching science is to give the students a love for the world around them, focusing on science elements.  The classes are very hands-on with a priority given to inquiry-based learning opportunities which allow for critical thinking.

Grading and Late Work Practices    I follow the district grading policy.  For late work, at a minimum, I follow the district late work policy; however, I realize that there are extenuating circumstances and I allow students to turn their work in beyond the district guidelines on a per student, per circumstance basis.  Late work beyond the district policy is at teacher discretion.

Re-teach Practices     Following the Madeline Hunter Teaching Model, I utilize every opportunity to re-teach assignments when individuals or classes struggle with specific concepts.  There is re-teach in the classroom everyday.  Additional re-teach opportunities are available during tutorials from 3-4 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday.  Students also may have opportunities to improve their grades on assignments when re-teach is offered.  Improving a grade may be in the form of correcting a test for additional points, redoing an assignment, or doing an alternate assignment for a grade that will raise the grade in question.  A student’s failure to appropriately study or prepare for an assignment or test does not entitle them to re-teach opportunities.  Students have to take responsibility for their learning.  The teacher has sole discretion on which grades/assignments are re-taught and when opportunities are available to improve the grade.
